AA Bean an Tí of the Year Award 2011/2012

Margaret Gill of Bertra House B&B has been awarded the AA Ireland ‘Bean an Tí of the Year Award’ for 2011/2012. Ireland’s Minister of State at the Department Transport, Tourism & Sport, Mr Michael Ring, presented Margaret with the award in acknowledgement of her exceptional commitment and hard work as an individual proprietor of a first-rate hospitality establishment.

Margaret and her husband, John Joe, have been running the idyllically located Bertra House for the last twenty-six years since shortly after they were married. Past guests of Bertra House have described Margaret as ‘great fun’ and ‘a gifted story teller’. In addition to its spectacular views of “The Reek" (as Croagh Patrick is known locally) to the south and Clew Bay and Achill Island to the west, Margaret’s warmth, kindness and endeavour to make guests stays as enjoyable as possible is what sets Bertra House apart from other B&Bs say the AA Inspectors and the many guests who have had the pleasure of staying there.

Visitors to Margaret’s B&B will certainly start the day well nourished thanks to her delicious homemade breads, fruits scones, preserves and the hearty traditional Irish breakfast on offer. Margaret’s immaculate housekeeping of her five light and airy bedrooms also add to the comfortable atmosphere which prevails in what AA Inspectors describe as a "special house where standards surpass expectation."

"Bertra House is a real gem and small business owners like Margaret are a vital part of the Irish Hospitality Industry," said Brendan Nevin, CEO of AA Ireland. "Margaret is a superb ambassador for Irish Tourism and we’re delighted to honour her as an individual with this well-deserved award."
